Hello travelers!
Last month I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful city and I want to share with you some things we did along the way. Since we spent in Germany only 3 days, we didn´t get to do anything crazy. Me and my friend actually decided to visit as many sighseeings as we could and enjoy our pro-longed weekend to the fullist.
The thing is, I like to plan all the trips before visiting a specific country. Not being prepared makes me a little anxious, which was too bad for me, because my friend decided that we will make an itinerary along the way. Fun! Yeah, my little planning soul was experiencing a little heartbreak.
DAY 1
We started our journey on Friday at 6 a.m. We wanted to take a train since it made sence because of the price. Happy and full of energy, myself and my friend were standing in the middle of Berlin train station, lost. Well, just for a second, because the place was packed with all kinds of signs to direct us, so no need to worry about that. It´s better to purchase your metro (U-Bahn) and tram tickets right at the station so you don´t need to think about it for the rest of your stay.
The plan was, that we would spend a couple hours visiting places in our distance and then we would arrive to our appartment to check in. In Berlin, all the most important places are quite close to each other, which is very handy if you´re traveling for 3 days only. Our first stop was obvious - the Brandenburg Gate. The amout of tourist will complicate taking your perfect instagram pic, but if you´re patient, you can wait until the huge crowds are gone.
Of course we took a wrong bus multipal times, but if everything went right, we would not be able to see all the sights we accidentaly found. Der Berliner Dom - beautiful from the outside, stunning from the inside. When you purchase a ticket, you can also climb all the stairs and look at the surroundings from its view point. We also saw the National gallery and Berlin´s Concert dome.
Alexander Platz. A place full of restaurants, cafés, and fun activities to do. My friend wanted to quickly visit a church there, so we did. I really wanted to visit the TV tower at night, therefore, we took our luggage and purchased our tickets for Saturday.
After all of that, we went to our apartment to check in. Of course we got lost and the man I was talking to was basically laughing at me, but oh well, at least we had a little adventure. We stayed at Excellent Apartments, because it had great ratings and it wasn´t expensive whatsoever. Haha, it was the worst stay I´ve ever had during my traveling career. The furniture looked very dangerous to even touch, beds were dirty and the whole "apartment" was not even close to the one we saw in pictures back at home. Plus we were freezing the entire evening, because our heater broke. Basically, it could not get worse.
It was around 7 p.m. when we left our "apartment" and went exploring the neighborhood. We went shopping for a bit and bought groceries, because we were planning to cook a dinner for ourselves that evening. We also tested the best dessert in my entire existence here on earth. A strawberry jelly (see? I´m still a child inside).
DAY 2
We woke up to a rainy weather, which was a bit unfortunate since this was supposed to be our only full day in Berlin. We didn´t, however, let it to stop us from our adventure. We saw the Charlotten burg (which I bet is stunning in Spring and Summer) and went to see all the memorials Berlin offers.
Check point Charlie, Topography of Terror and the Memorial of the Berlin wall - everything is pretty close, so you can see everything in 1 or 2 hours. If you´re feeling touristy, you can also visit the East side Gallery. Don´t forget to try curry wurst, German traditional dish, which is super tasty, especially when it´s pouring rain outside and you´re freezing.
We picked a restaurant called Momotaro tavern at Alexander Platz for dinner. I can not recommend this restaurant enough. Very friendly staff, delicious meal and lovely atmosphere.
And then, we went to the TV tower and that was the best experience I have from Berlin. You get an amazing view of the whole Berlin infrastructure and you realize how small your problems actually are. You can order some very expensive drinks if you like, but just admiring the surroundings is worth the visit as well. Having a deep talk more than 200 meters above the ground, is definitely the best memory I have from this city.
DAY 3
Happy to leave our "apartment" we took our luggage and went to see the Reichstag building. The whole architecture in Berlin is simply stunning and breath-taking. We also visited the Holocaust memorial and saw the Victory column.
Then we ate in Vapiano and ended our trip with a matcha latte. We took a bus home and happily fell asleep in our own beds.
... of Muslim people trying to get money from you. They will be most likely holding a piece of paper with a little note on it. It´s better to act like you don´t understand them.
... you don´t have to know German to travel around. Even though I study this language, I was perfectly fine with my English.
... check the neighborhood your hotel is located in before booking it.
... the TV tower is much better at night
... it´s better to purchase your metro and tram tickets at a train station or an airport.
... you don´t need more than 3-4 days in Berlin to see everything you want. Since everything is located close to each other, you would run out of possible sights to visit.
...GPS will be your best friend
I put everything together so you don´t get lost in all the writing.
