Since I know a lot about Prague, I decided to put together a list of things which will be useful if you´re planning a trip to this beautiful country called the Czech Republic!
It´s cheap.
Do you like traveling on a budget and not saving much when it comes to food and sightseeing? Prague is stunning, full of castles, churches, places to visit and delicious food. You will not regret a single crown spent here. The Czech Republic has the best beer (they invented it), so you can get yourself a 1 liter of the best beer in the world for only 1 euro! It depends where you ear, restaurants will be definitely pricier around the Wenceslas square and the Old town square. Try to pick those which are not situated right in the center and you will not leave broke!
It has a great history.
It´s a small city, however, its history beats other towns you have visited in your past. The Prague castle is the largest castle in the world (listed in the Guinness book of world records). Pravčická brána is the highest natural arch in Europe. Prague was the center of Europe for many decades, many famous kings (including Charles IV, Maria Teresa, Rudolf II) lived here. You will definitely not be bored with its breath-taking history.
Home of Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák.
You can follow their footsteps, see where they lived, where their works came to life. Czech people are truly proud of the culture surrounding their country, you can attend many concerts which are offered (and are not that expensive!)
Metro station Anděl used to be called after Moscow.
It represented the partnership between Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union.
Anthropoid (Gabčík, Kubiš)
This brave action was done by two Czech man right in the center of Prague! You can see the exact church where it happened, where they were hiding and where they died. I highly recommend to watch the movie before visiting Prague! Since the Czech Republic is situated right next to Germany, Prague has lots of places like this one.
The Astronomical clock
Located at the Old town square, this clock is the only one of its kind in the world. There is a great story behind building it (the maker got blind) and the ending will not give you a good night sleep! Every hour, you can watch a little performance. Installed in 1410 and it´s still ticking!
You can get everywhere by train or a bus.
We are talking about a small country. That small, that if you took a train, you could visit a town on the other side in 3 hours. The system of trains, buses or metro is not complicated whatsoever! You will see signs everywhere, so it´s nearly impossible to get lost!
It´s impossible to pronounce Czech sightseeing properly and what´s more,
locals will not understand you if you don´t say it exactly. They would
really like to help you, but they will not understand you. Please, write
it down, and they will help you.
To see the real culture, visit a village.
It´s so easy to get overwhelmed by the grace of Prague. However, if you really want to have a look at the real life of Czech people, travel 15-20 minutes outside Prague and you will be surprised! It´s different, yet beautiful. You will not see these kinds of villages anywhere else!
The Charles bridge - a place filled with fun facts.
This bridge was apparently built using eggs. Also, Charles IV wanted to have a mathematical significance, so he ordered to build it at 5.31 am on July 9, 1357. Why? Visit Prague to find out!
I have many many more facts to list, please let me know, if you´re interested in reading them!
You made it to the end!
